Hello, I’m

Dr. Andrew Chin

Your neighbourhood Chiropractor

I have been a Chiropractor since 1999.  I graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic West Campus in San Jose, California.  Even though I’ve written both the American and Canadian Chiropractic Board exams, I chose to return to Vancouver to practice in 2000.  It’s not hard to want to return to the Pacific Northwest for our lifestyle of oceans, mountains, and yes, rain!  I went to high school at St. Thomas Aquinas and wanted to return to the North Shore to practice as soon as I could.  However, I had to wait until 2011 because I ended up running a practice in Downtown Vancouver when I returned.  I finally did return to the North Shore and had been happily practicing in Ambleside, West Vancouver, ever since.

Your Health and Wellness

Giving you the skills, knowledge, and support for preventative care is so important.

What I think…

I feel the best approach to patient care is using a multidisciplinary model.  Having complementary care that supports your body to heal well, so you can feel better and participate in an active lifestyle without anxiety and fear of pain or injury is the goal.  A healthy and balanced diet, daily movement and exercise, enough sleep, and, in my opinion, stretching every day will go a long way towards a better and longer life.

Add this all with a health care team that puts your interest above all else means you have an excellent chance of achieving optimum health.  As a Doctor of Chiropractic, I have invested years of training to care for your musculoskeletal health.  I will help your body’s skeletal frame perform at it’s best with your supporting muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, nerves, and associated soft tissues.  A strong and healthy musculoskeletal system will also have a positive impact on any other care that your physician and healthcare professionals might be giving you.

When you become my patient, our interaction does not begin and end with the clinic visit.  I will be giving you some stretches and exercises to do when you’re at home.  This “homework” will not only help you recover from your injury or pain faster but will start making small changes to your musculoskeletal structure.  Each time you do your daily exercises and stretches, the positive results are accumulative.  Over the next few weeks and months, your flexibility, strength, and posture will start to improve.  You will gain more confidence in your body to move and feel better.  The soreness and tightness you feel first thing in the morning will gradually disappear or lessen.

Did you know…

There are many specialties within the field of Chiropractic.  My interest in diagnosing patients is with a thorough clinical history, a complete physical exam, and utilizing imaging studies as needed.  Not all symptoms are explained with an x-ray, MRI, CT, or Ultrasound.  However, the ability to read and rule out and rule in complications from imaging tools can provide a much better diagnosis and outcome for my patients.

Most people don’t realize that the curriculum of the four years of Chiropractic College includes a focus on Imaging procedures, including plain X-rays, MRI, nuclear bone scanning, CT, ultrasound, contrast radiography, and fluoroscopy, as well as fiber-optic camera methods starting in the first year.  Having access to imaging studies and reports in an exam can be very helpful.

Dr. Verity Stow

Dr. Verity Stow grew up in Langley, BC Canada. She graduated from the University of Western States with a Doctor of Chiropractic and a Masters of Sports Medicine. Dr. Verity is a certified full body Active Release Technique (ART) provider. She then spent almost two years in Austin, Texas practicing as a running form and gait biomechanics specialist. She is experienced in chiropractic manipulation (HVLA diversified technique) and various soft tissue manipulation techniques, which allows her to treat biomechanical and musculoskeletal issues in an efficient and effective manner.

Dr. Verity has always been enthusiastic about a variety of sports and outdoor activities. Before becoming a DC, she competitively show-jumped horses nationally and internationally. While in school, she switched from being a full-time athlete to a weekend warrior. Now, Dr. Verity’s favourite weekend activities are running, and bagging hikes, summits and climbing routes. Due to these experiences, she understands the high-level stress and high standards required of athletes at all levels. Dr. Verity relates to the frustrations of having to “sit one out” as she has had her fair share of injuries related, and non-related, to working with horses. This gave Dr. Verity the passion to help people avoid biomechanical issues that can lead to injuries, and to achieve their goals in sports and life.

Dr. Verity’s treatment approach includes soft tissue therapy, joint manipulation, gait biomechanical evaluation and correction, strengthening exercises, and foam rolling techniques to decrease pain and increase one’s quality of life.

The Past

Ambleside Chiropractic has been serving the residents of both West Vancouver and North Vancouver for well over 50 years. Dr. Derek Laurillard and Dr. Andrea Schloegl were the Chiropractors running the practice before I joined them. Some of you might also remember another well-loved chiropractor, Dr. Margaret Strongitharm who was practicing before them. They were all excellent chiropractors and took great care of their patients for many years when they were in practice. When Dr. Laurillard and Dr. Schloegl retired, I was very fortunate to continue the legacy of care that they had provided to the community of West Vancouver and North Vancouver. Many of the patients that I treat now were once only children when they had their first chiropractic visit with Dr. Laurillard and Dr. Schloegl.

Since then, generations of families have come through our doors. It has been both exciting and humbling to be able to contribute to these families’ health and wellness over the years. We have been helping our patients with everything from back pain, headaches, motor vehicle injuries, workplace, and sports injuries. We are still very committed to helping patients live pain-free and healthy lifestyles. Our tradition of individualized health and wellness care starts the minute you walk through our doors. Be it for your current condition or preventative wellness care; we are here to help you. Our focus on small community healthcare still echoes the legacy of the past by getting to know each one of you not just as a patient but also as a person that we have the opportunity to get to know for a long time.

Future

Changes in attitudes to health and wellness also bring about change in terms of how to care for your patients.  Almost all our patients are aware of the importance of eating healthy, exercise, and preventative care.  Regardless of what brings the patient in to see me as a Chiropractor in West Vancouver, I have always stressed those three essential values of wellness living.

However, sometimes, the ability to provide a much better outcome for the patient must also include the opinions and co-management with their family physician, medical specialist, physiotherapist, massage therapist, and others in the healthcare field.  There is more to a patient’s health and wellness than just chiropractic care.  As a patient-centered chiropractic physician, I believe in working in a multidisciplinary team with other specialists solely for my patient’s benefit.

Therefore, to continue in the legacy that my previous colleagues started many years ago, I see the future of Ambleside Chiropractic as an integrated discipline.  Offering my patients better Chiropractic care while working with their family physicians is a great start.  My patients get to benefit from a holistic healthcare model.  I hope the integration of our current clinic where my patients get to see their family doctor in the same clinic as their chiropractic care will continue.
